With over 18,000 students across our two campuses, including over 2,000 international students from over 100 countries, the University has a strong tradition of providing quality education and a rich life experience. The University enjoys consistently high ratings in national quality teaching league tables, with several courses receiving an Excellent rating by the Quality Assurance Agency, also performing strongly in the latest National Student Survey (NSS). According to the NSS, our students are among the happiest in the UK, with Friends Reunited also ranking us as one of nation’s friendliest universities. Other accolades include top ratings for staff quality, graduate employability, industrial connections, and research excellence.
Academic strengths The University provides a full range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, as well as welcoming study abroad students to study for one or two semesters. It also offers English language tuition at the Language Institute, and an In-Sessional Study Programme that includes modules in English for academic purposes and English for business. Four year BA, BSc. and BEng degrees, including an initial access year, are available for those not qualified for direct entry to three- year degrees.
Facilities Situated on a single site, creating a great sense of community amongst its students, the Hull campus is a safe place to study and live; surrounded by many of the University's student residences on adjacent streets. Accommodation is guaranteed for all single overseas students (except for late applicants) throughout the course of their study. This could be either accommodation owned or managed by the University, or locally accredited accommodation in the private sector. The campus covers 114 acres and houses all the main teaching buildings, including the library, which contains over a million books, the Computer Centre, which offers access to over 1,100 computers across campus; and the Language Institute with its fully equipped open learning centre. It also includes the main Students' Union building, theatre, and a Sports and Fitness Centre with saunas, a solarium, Jacuzzi and fantastic outdoor facilities. One hours' drive from Hull, the Scarborough campus is just over a mile from the centre of one of England's most attractive seaside resorts, and less than five minutes from its sandy beaches. It brings together teaching buildings (including dedicated studio and dance spaces), a library, an IT and Digital Arts Centre, Students' Union facilities and halls of residence. The campus provides a safe, friendly environment for its students in a picturesque setting.
Student life At the University of Hull, students are at the heart of everything we do – teaching, welfare services, and social facilities. Your first port of call will be the International Office, with staff from six countries speaking more than 15 languages. Dedicated to providing a friendly, supportive environment, there is also a full-time international student adviser. The University also offers a range of other support services, including pastoral staff in the residences, a Counselling Service, a dedicated Careers Service and various Chaplains. The Student Advice Centre also provides free, impartial and confidential advice and information. The Students' Union building on the Hull campus is the centre of student activities, and one of the most popular and best-priced venues in the city. The Union provides services such as the job exchange, Union shop, travel centre, university bookshop, student support services, the careers service and banking facilities. With over 150 student societies, including the International Students' Association and over 15 country specific groups, the University prides itself on creating what is a positive and enriching learning environment.
